Overview
Take a trip to Idaho on your United States vacation.
Idaho is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The state's capital and largest city are Boise. Idaho is quite mountainous and contains several stretches of the Rocky Mountains. The landscape is rugged with some of the largest unspoiled natural areas in the United States.
The rugged state has snow-capped mountain ranges, rapids, vast lakes, and steep canyons. The waters of the Snake River – known by early pioneers as the dreaded “River of No Return” – run through Hells Canyon, the deepest gorge in the United States.
Must-sees include the awe-inspiring cascade of Shoshone Falls, called the “Niagara of the West,” and Craters of the Moon National Monument: this eerie desert landscape so closely resembles lunar conditions that astronauts actually train here.
Idaho is all about nature. Visit Salmon-Challis National Forest, the sandy Bruneau Dunes State Park, the vast Boise National Forest, and the Idaho portion of Yellowstone National Park. Idaho’s unique geological, volcanic landscape also means countless geothermal pools and hot springs, including Lava Hot Springs and a water park.
