Belgium Vacations

Diverse cityscapes to discover

For the urban explorer, Belgium certainly packs a punch. Its main cities, namely Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, are gems for their art and culture just as much as their architectural beauty.

Brussels is the capital of Europe, where diverse cuisines, languages, and cultures mix in its winding streets and wide open plazas. Explore UNESCO Heritage Sites like the Grand Palace or gothic cathedrals whose spires twist high into the sky, attracting thousands of visitors every year.

Sip your new favourite pint before exploring Antwerp, known as the City with Many Faces. Industrial ports juxtapose futurist structures and medieval streets bursting with café life, giving you endless options for the day's vibes. The fairytale-like city of Bruges charms travellers with rows of colourful buildings, cobblestone streets, and winding canals. Get a taste of the Chocolate Museum before setting off to Gravesteen Castle in Ghent, built in the 12th Century and still standing to this day.

Practice your French, Dutch, or German, depending on where you're standing. Looking to escape the city and breathe in fresh air? Laze about the sand dunes on the western coastal plains, or hike deep into the Ardennes Mountains in the east. Don't let Belgium's size fool you — the country has more castles per square kilometre than anywhere else in the world!

Rich history with medieval charm

No trip to Europe is complete without experiencing Belgium. Home to medieval towns, bubbling beer culture, and world-class museums, lose yourself in winding streets or a bite of creamy chocolate. From fluffy waffles to royal palaces, Belgium is a treat for every kind of palate.

Bruges, the capital of West Flanders in northwest Belgium, is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings

The Culture

Belgian character can't be pinned down with a single description. Everything depends on your relation to its two distinct ethnic groups. In the north of the country lies Flanders, home to the Flemish, a predominantly Dutch-speaking population. The south part of the country is called Wallonia, where inhabitants speak French. German speakers can be found in the eastern regions of the country, but there are fewer habitants here.

Polyglots will be happy to practice more than one language in Belgium, but the culture will differ depending on where you are. For example, people in Brussels will often go for a handshake when greeting each other. In French-speaking Wallonia, a kiss on the cheek is more common.
