Leaning Tower of Pisa Tours and Vacation Packages

Overview

Take a trip to Leaning Tower of Pisa on your Italy Vacation

You've seen it in movies, documentaries, magazines, and websites. The bell tower, called the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which leans towards one direction. This unusual architectural feature is the tower's appeal. Construction of the tower began in 1173, and the lean resulted from the structure being built on soft ground, worsening over time. Engineers expect the Leaning Tower of Pisa to remain stable for another 200 years before collapsing.

The most common thing to do at this resilient-if-crooked structure is to take funny photos in front of it. You can climb the 200-plus steps to the top of the tower for scenic views. The Leaning Tower is part of a larger complex known as the Square of Miracles. You can visit the cathedral, baptistery, Camposanto, and museums in the complex. Tickets to climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa have limited availability, so it's best to purchase them in advance. Children must be eight years or older to climb the tower.
