Located in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, near the border of Brunei, Mulu National Park is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to be considered for a visit on Malaysia vacations.
Mulu National Park is famous for its limestone karst formations, both above and below ground. It features enormous caves, vast cave networks, rock pinnacles, cliffs, and gorges, and is home to Mount Mulu, Sarawak’s second-highest mountain.
Sarawak Chamber is one of a few notable caves in Mulu National Park. It is 2,300 feet (700 m) long, 1,300 feet (396 m) wide and at least 230 feet (70 m) high. Clearwater Cave contains parts of one of the world's largest underground river systems and is believed to be the largest cave in the world by volume at 30,347,540m cubed.
In 1977-78, the National Geographical Society and the Sarawak government conducted a major expedition and survey of the area, involving 100 scientists. It has since initiated a series of expeditions now known as the Mulu Caves Project.
With 1500 flowering plants, 170 species of wild orchids, 67 species of animals, and offering accommodation onsite at its headquarters, Mulu National Park is a paradise for naturalists, adventurists, and anyone with an appreciation of our delicate ecosystem on a Malaysia tour.
