Take a trip to Hwange National Park on your Zimbabwe vacation.
Covering a 14,650 square kilometre plateau in the northwest corner of Zimbabwe is Hwange National Park. The largest and most visited national park in the country, Hwange is home to all of Zimbabwe’s specially protected species.
Once home to the nomadic San (bushmen) who profited from the migrating game found in the area, Hwange served as the royal hunting ground for Mzilikazi, a Ndebele warrior-king early in the 19th century. The area was designated as a national park in 1929 and was named after a local Nhanzwa chief.
It has been said that a visit to Hwange National Park provides a glimpse of an older Africa, one that existed more than 150 years ago.
