Table Mountain
Table Mountain, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, is known for its incredible hiking experience offering spectacular views of Cape Town landmarks and exceptional fauna. Rising 3,500 ft (1,066 m) above sea level, the flat-topped mountain has been inhabited since the Stone Age.
You can hike up the mountain on foot or take a cable car to the top. All hikes to the summit are challenging and require a good level of fitness. There are five main hiking trails, with Platteklip Gorge being the most straightforward way to ascend the mountain. On the way, you can see waterfalls, caves, and ruins, the Cape fynbos shrubland plant and King Protea, South Africa's national flower, and if you're lucky, the critically endangered Table Mountain ghost frog. There are a number of lookouts on top of the mountain, as well as a cafe, and a gift and curio shop. The full hike will take 6-8 hours, 2-4 if taking the cable car.
