As a cosmopolitan, world class city, Hong Kong truly makes its own statement in the global community. Having been under the colonial influence of the British for more than a century, the city-state offers a wonderful blend of Western traditions with an Eastern mentality. Hong Kong features plenty of skyscrapers and, next to China, is considered one of the crown jewels of the Pacific. You can easily spend four days and three nights exploring the best of what this city-state has to offer.

View from Victoria Peak

Start with Victoria Peak
One of the most quintessential experiences in Hong Kong is Victoria Peak. Offering a panoramic view of the city and a more temperate climate than other spots in Hong Kong, Victoria Peak welcomes more than 7 million tourists a year. Take the tram or get your exercise by walking to the top (it's a steep slope, though), and see some of the most expensive houses in the world while you're here.

Being a historic open port and island means the water is a big draw. Use the Star Ferry to venture across the Victoria Harbour between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The ferry isn't the only way there. The train and road also cross the water, but the ferry ride is definitely more scenic. Don't miss the boat ride to Aberdeen Harbour for the floating market and great seafood.

Stanley Market is the most famous tourist attraction of Stanley

A Shopper's Paradise
Look for the ultra-luxurious yachts and high-rise buildings standing in sharp contrast to the old-fashioned junks and sampans. Take it in on the way to Stanley Market, which has plenty of souvenirs for any budget and taste. If you plan on leaving Hong Kong with more than you arrived with, you'll discover plenty of opportunities to shop. You can easily spend an entire day exploring the markets here. Head to Cat Street to see plenty of antiques or pick up some propaganda posters from the Cultural Revolution.

No Need to Actually Get Wet
For a wet market that sells plenty of meat and produce, head to Chun Yeung Street for the wet market. The entrance alone makes it worth the visit. The market is easily visited from the tram and is a fun look back at old-school Hong Kong. Everything from the high-end malls to the classic street markets are around. Don't forget about the Temple Street night market to take in everything from fake designer goods to tea ware and fortune tellers. Expect to haggle, it's all part of the fun.

Explore Lantau Island
Hong Kong isn't all urban jungle, of course. Make your way to Lantau Island, often called "the Venice of the East" and "the lungs of Hong Kong." Explore the Po Lin Monastery, a 26-meter-tall bronze Buddha statue, getting there via a scenic cable car ride. Hong Kong Disneyland is on the island as well, for anyone who is young at heart.

Where to Eat
If you're a live-to-eat sort of person, Hong Kong offers plenty of delights. Whether you're in the mood for high tea at the world-famous Mandarin Hotel or a simple bowl of dim sum, there really is something for everyone. Head to the Michelin two-star Ming Court Cantonese Restaurant for an unforgettable experience with plenty of exquisite Chinese decorations, or try the Lei Garden for food that looks like art. There's plenty of dai pai dongs, or street vendors, around. Head to Causeway Bay where English is generally understood, or have an adventure along Temple Street for the best street food in town.

What to Do in Hong Kong at Night
If you thought New York was the city that never sleeps, think again. Take a walk in the evening on Nathan Road, the main drag through Kowloon, and enjoy the hustle and bustle of shoppers and diners. If you're ready to take back the night, know that the bar and club scene across Hong Kong is second to none. Come dressed for the occasion and don't worry about the party closing down around you. Even the restaurants stay open late.

Hong Kong is ready for you. Are you ready for it?
