Discover the WOW factor of South Australia! On your Australia vacation, let us take you on a journey that will both surprise and delight you, featuring Wildlife, Outback, and Wine. There are many reasons why the state of South Australia will WOW you. Let’s start with weather. South Australia enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which means perfect vacation weather year-round. The summers are long, hot, and pleasantly dry. Winter is mild compared to North American standards, with winter days averaging 15-16°C / 59-61°F, and is a great time to explore the wine regions outside the city and enjoy rich, hearty red wines in front of a roaring fireplace.
The capital of South Australia is Adelaide, a charming boutique city, easy to walk around with its natural beauty reflected in its parks and historical architecture. The first W in WOW is for Wildlife. From Adelaide, one can take a short flight or ferry ride to Kangaroo Island, the perfect place to see Australian wildlife. This is an animal paradise where you can enjoy koalas and seals at Seal Bay, discover unique wildlife, and get close to kangaroos all living in their natural habitat. Also a short flight from Adelaide is the Eyre Peninsula Here you can swim with dolphins and sea lions and even cage dive with great white sharks!
Next is O. This is all about the Outback, and South Australia delivers on unique Outback experiences. Fly to Coober Pedy from Adelaide, the world's opal capital and unique Outback town. Discover houses, hotels, churches, restaurants and bars all built underground to escape the soaring summer temperatures. Fossick for opals, explore the desert landscape, and tour underground Opal mines. Visit the Flinders Ranges, one of Australia’s premier national landscapes and home to unique wildlife, flora, and fauna. Self-drive or take a small group tour to learn Aboriginal history and culture. A highlight of this area is Wilpena Pound, a massive amphitheatre created over millions of years and surrounded by ancient mountain ranges, gorges, and creeks. Suggested Itinerary: 3-Day Flinders Ranges and Outback
The other W is for Wine. South Australia is blessed with a thriving food and wine scene and includes 18 unique wine regions. Close to Adelaide, is the famous Barossa Valley, a world-class wine region located only 70 kilometres/45 miles northeast of Adelaide and is Australia’s best-known wine-producing region. It also offers farmers markets, gourmet restaurants, and many cellar door experiences.
