The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom and democracy. A gift from France to the United States, the Statue of Liberty is an American icon that's easily recognized by people all over the world. It was dedicated on October 28, 1886, and designed by sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi and engineer Gustave Eiffel. Recognized for its technical marvel, it stands as a bridge between art and engineering. The statue's name, Liberty, comes from the Roman goddess Libertas, who symbolizes freedom. Libertas was depicted on Roman coins during Julius Caesar's time, representing support for the Republic.

To visit the Statue of Liberty, you may take the ferry from Liberty State Park in New Jersey or Battery Park in Manhattan. Statue City Cruises is the authorized ferry service provider. There is mandatory security screening, which is similar to airport security screenings.
