Take a trip to Boston on your United States vacation.
This is one of the great cities of the U.S., a place filled with edgy neighbourhoods, university students, tons of history, and marvelous pro sports.
Beacon Hill is an old-time part of town with gas lamps, cobblestone streets and beautiful brick buildings boasting colourful window boxes. Little Italy in the North End is a wonderful place to explore mom-and-pop shops and seafood places that serve up appetizers with dozens of tasty, local mussels and other treats. Bites of Boston does great food tours of various areas of the city, including Chinatown and the South End, where you can sample all sorts of local treats.
The city is home to some of the top universities in the U.S., including Harvard, Boston College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The sports scene is equally impressive. Fenway Park is home to the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball and is regarded by many as the best, the most historic ballpark in the States.
This is one of the most historic cities in the U.S. Try a Freedom Trail tour with a guide in historic costume or take a tour on your own by following the red brick line and brass medallions that connect 16 historic monuments and attractions.
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in downtown Boston feels like an Italian villa. The old wing features work by the likes of Rembrandt and Titian. The bright, newer wing by designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano.
A boat tour of Boston Harbor, which sometimes includes a visit to the lighthouse at Little Brewster Island, also is a great activity. Or try a ride on the iconic Swan Boats in Boston Public Garden.
