Algonquin Provincial Park
Located in southeastern Ontario, Algonquin Provincial Park is Canada’s oldest national park. It was established in 1893 to create a wildlife sanctuary and protect the headwaters of the main rivers flowing from the park. Today, the park's vast and deep interior of maple hills, rock ridges, and over 2,400 lakes attract outdoor enthusiasts and artists from around the world.
Hiking is a popular way to explore the vast park. There are over 20 well-marked trails, most being about 1-2 hours. They're great for day-trippers and campers alike. Over 278 species of birds have been spotted in the park, cementing its status as a birdwatcher's haunt. Algonquin is famous for offering some of the best trout fishing in Canada. Spring is trout season while summer is more suited to small mouth bass fishing. Winter brings cross-country skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts to the park. Camping for 3-4 days at the park is often recommended to get the best experience. It allows you to explore different areas of the park, enjoy different activities, and soak in the beauty of Algonquin.
