Things to know before your adventure to vibrant Guyana awaits!

Here are some things that you might need to consider before setting off to Guyana:

Climate & Weather: Tropical with two rainy seasons (Nov-Jan and Apr-Aug) and two dry seasons (Feb-Mar and Sep-Oct).

Currency: Guyanese dollar (GYD); USD accepted for larger transactions in the capital. Cash is preferred over credit cards, and ATMs are scarce.

Food & Drink: A mix of Creole, East Indian, Portuguese, and European influences. Tap water may be contaminated; drink bottled or filtered water.

Transport: Taxis and minibusses are common; negotiate taxi fares in advance. Car rentals are available, mainly four-wheel drives for remote areas.

Language: English is the official language, with Guyanese Creole also widely spoken.

Etiquette & Travel Tips: Guyanese are welcoming but have a flexible attitude to timekeeping. Internet access may be limited in rural areas.

Electricity Socket: Type A, B, D, and G with a standard voltage of 240V and frequency of 60Hz. A universal travel adaptor is recommended.

Visa: Many passports can receive 30 days on arrival, extendable at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Safety: Caution is advised, particularly in Georgetown. Personal experience varies, but travel insurance is recommended.

Budgeting: Costs are lower than in the US, UK, and Canada but comparable to other South American countries. Budget accommodations and meals are affordable.

Packing: Pack light with sturdy hiking shoes, flip-flops, and high-quality, breathable clothes for adventure activities.
