TürkiyeBest Time to Visit

Discover Türkiye's diverse climates for the perfect travel timing.

The climate and best time to visit Türkiye is very much dependent on geographical regions. The Marama, Aegean, and Mediterranean coasts enjoy a typically Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The Black Sea coast also experiences warm summers and mild winters, but it has a heavier rainfall season. And the interior plains are colder in winter because the mountains that run parallel to the coasts block the moderating effect that would come from the seas that surround the country.

When is the ideal time to visit Türkiye?

If you’re looking to put your feet in the sand and take a swim in the sea, it is ideal to visit Türkiye in September and October when crowds are lightest. The Turkish coastlines are dotted with dramatic landscapes and cozy nooks perfect for contemplation and deep relaxation, while the water remains warm. Walks along lengthy shorelines with golden beaches and natural harbours, paragliding, and water sports beckon a visit. Crowds are also lighter in April and May and can be a pleasant time to visit, especially Istanbul, when the cultural calendar starts to fill up, tulips are in bloom and exploring the city on foot in moderate weather is ideal.

When is Türkiye's peak tourist season?

The coast of Türkiye experiences peak travel during the summer months of July and August, especially popular for European travellers seeking sun and heat. Notably is Antalya, known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean, featuring endless beaches, ruins, nightlife, and golf courses. The region offers tours to some lesser known attractions, like Saklikent Gorge, one of the deepest in the world. There are many small islands to explore with small coves, crystal waters and beaches, ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and picnicking. Cappadocia also sees peak season in the summer, with the heat to match. Catching a hot air balloon ride is most predictable in the summer due to low precipitation and winds. Visits to Istanbul between June to August see peak tourist levels, with plenty of festivals to be enjoyed, lively streets and glorious weather for outdoor dining.

Also consider checking the floating dates of Ramadan and Eid Al Adha, the two biggest Muslim holidays which are both popular travel periods in Türkiye, leading to busier and more costly transportation.

Which is the most affordable time to visit Türkiye?

The coolest temperatures and most affordable pricing is available November to March. It is still a great time to visit Türkiye, as temperatures do not typically drop below –2°C (28°F). That said, there is mostly snow covered ground in the Eastern Anatolian region.

If you are looking to explore Istanbul from November to March, pack a warm jacket but also take the chance to spend time indoors at the Grand Bazaar. The Grand Bazaar is one of the world’s largest covered markets. Spread over sixty-one covered streets with more than four-thousand shops, it’s considered the world’s first shopping mall. It employs 26,000 people and is open everyday except Sundays and holidays. Enjoy a stroll through its narrow lanes where you can see artisans at work and find a local snack to eat.

How long should I plan to visit Türkiye?

Spending 8-days in Türkiye is ideal to give you a taste of the country, with days to explore Istanbul and then travel inland to Cappadocia. To see the most possible of Türkiye, plan to spend 15 days exploring. You will have the opportunity to start in Istanbul, travel along the coast, take a visit to the famous ruins of Ephesus, then travel north to Konya visiting the ancient city of Aspendos. You’ll also have the chance to spend time in Cappadocia, land of the fairy rocks and home to some of Türkiye's most historic ruins.
