Overview
Take a trip to Tabuk on your Saudi Arabia vacation.
Tabuk is an oasis city and the northern gateway to the holy city of Madinah. In 630 AD, the Prophet Muhammad marched the Islamic army to Tabuk to counter a rumoured Byzantine army pushing south into Arab lands. The Byzantines never showed up, but the Arabs stayed in the settlement, transforming it into a waystation for pilgrims coming from Syria.
Today, Tabuk is the capital city in the region, also called Tabuk, and the base for exploring the nearby historic landmarks and natural valleys, including Wadi Disah. Historic landmarks within the city include the remnants of the main station of the Hejaz Railway, which connected Damascus to Madinah until World War I, as well as Tabuk Castle, an Ottoman castle from the 16th century built on fortifications dating back to 3,500 BC. Due to its geographic location, Tabuk has significant Egyptian and Jordanian influences. It’s also unique as one of the few cities in Saudi Arabia to occasionally experience snow.
