Cardiff is a lively and modern capital city and appeals to visitors interested in history and Welsh culture. The city centre has seen huge developments over the last decade and is now considered one of the top ten shopping destinations in the UK. It is a very green city as it has the greenest space per person in the UK. Bute Park is located in the heart of the city. It is a collection of different parks that stretch continuously to the city's edge. A new waterfront area at Cardiff Bay contains the Senedd building which is home to the Welsh Assembly and the Wales Millennium Centre arts complex. The city has many landmark buildings such as the Principality Stadium and Pierhead Building; a beautiful building covered in dragons and heraldry used for permanent and temporary exhibitions about Cardiff's development and the Welsh National Museum.
The National History Museum at St Fagan's is a large open-air museum housing dozens of buildings. The Civic Centre in Cathays Park consists of a collection of Edwardian buildings such as the City Hall, National Museum, and Gallery of Wales.
There are walks of special interest for visitors such as the Centenary Walk, which runs for 3.7 kilometres/2.3 miles within Cardiff city centre, this route passes through many of Cardiff's landmarks and historic buildings.
