Take a trip to Bucharest on your Romania vacation.
Bucharest, Romania’s capital is situated in the southeast of the country. It is known for its wide tree-lined boulevards and was labelled “Little Paris” between the time of the two World Wars due to its Belle Époque architecture. It is a bustling metropolis which has emerged from its Communist era days. It has in recent years experienced an economic and cultural boom. The city centre is a mixture of medieval, neoclassical and art nouveau buildings which give it a unique look to be enjoyed on a Romania vacation.
In the heart of the city are the attractive and popular Cismigiu Park and Lake Cismigiu. Also, Bucharest is the largest botanical garden in the country boasting more than 10,000 different plants. The imposing and huge Palace of the Parliament was built in the 1980s during the communist era and is the largest parliament building in the world. The city’s main concert hall is the Romanian Athenaeum, a symbol of Rumanian culture. Two other prominent museums are the National Museum of Art of Rumania and the Museum of the Rumanian Peasant, a collection of peasant artifacts.
Historical Revolution Square was the scene of the revolt against the regime of Ceausescu in 1989. It is also the site of the Royal Palace, a large concert hall and the National Art Museum. Avery's striking edifice is the beautiful Kretzulescu Church dating back to 1722.
