Bucharest Vacation Packages and Tours

Overview

Take a trip to Bucharest on your Romania vacation.

Bucharest, Romania’s capital is situated in the southeast of the country. It is known for its wide tree-lined boulevards and was labelled “Little Paris” between the time of the two World Wars due to its Belle Époque architecture. It is a bustling metropolis which has emerged from its Communist era days. It has in recent years experienced an economic and cultural boom. The city centre is a mixture of medieval, neoclassical and art nouveau buildings which give it a unique look to be enjoyed on a Romania vacation.

In the heart of the city are the attractive and popular Cismigiu Park and Lake Cismigiu. Also, Bucharest is the largest botanical garden in the country boasting more than 10,000 different plants. The imposing and huge Palace of the Parliament was built in the 1980s during the communist era and is the largest parliament building in the world. It also houses the National Museum of Contemporary Art and is one of the largest convention centres anywhere. A landmark is the Triumphal Arch built in 1935 and modelled after the one in Paris. The city’s main concert hall is the Romanian Athenaeum, a symbol of Rumanian culture. Two other prominent museums are the National Museum of Art of Rumania and the Museum of the Rumanian Peasant, a collection of peasant artifacts.

No street in Bucharest has a history to match that of Calea Victoriei, the city’s most famous thoroughfare which runs from the north of the city all the way down to the river in the south. Lined with fine houses, palaces, churches, hotels, upmarket shops and museums, it remains perhaps the most prestigious address in the city. Another of the city’s historical quarters is the Lipiscani District, a jumble of cobblestone streets and formerly home to merchants and craftsmen, now home to art galleries, antique stores and coffee houses which can all be seen on a Romania vacation.

Historical Revolution Square was the scene of the revolt against the regime of Ceausescu in 1989. It is also the site of the Royal Palace, a large concert hall and the National Art Museum. Avery's striking edifice is the beautiful Kretzulescu Church dating back to 1722.
