Take a trip to Tyssedal on your Norway vacation.
Tyssedal is a village located on the shore of the Sorfjorden which is an arm of the well-known Hardangerfjord. Its major attraction is Trolltunga, one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is situated about 1100 metres/3575 feet above sea level. On a Norway vacation, the views from here are breathtaking. If hiking, the trail goes through the high mountains and takes about 10 to 12 hours with a round-trip distance of 55 kilometres/ 34 miles. Due to weather, the hike is usually possible to do from mid-June, depending on when the snow melts in the mountains, until mid-September.
Nearby is the Folgefonna National Park, located on the Folgefonna peninsula. It also includes 3 glaciers and is the third-largest ice cap in Norway. Also nearby is the Hardangervidda National Park, Norway's largest national park. It spreads across the Hardanger mountain plateau and serves as a popular destination while on a trip to Norway for activities such as hiking, climbing, fishing, and cross-country skiing. The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a comprehensive network of huts and paths across Hardangervidda. It has the southernmost stock of several arctic animals and plants. Its wild reindeer herds are among the largest in the world. Several hundred nomadic Stone Age settlements have been found in the area, most likely related to the migration of the reindeer.
