Giant’s Causeway
The Giant's Causeway is a striking landscape of around 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by an ancient volcanic eruption. These massive black columns protrude from the sea, creating a dramatic sight that has sparked legends of giants crossing to Scotland. The formation, dating back 50 to 60 million years, occurred when lava flowed towards the coast and cooled upon contact with the sea. The cliff exposures of columnar and massive basalt on the Antrim Plateau offer a breathtaking display of natural beauty.
The easiest way to visit Giant's Causeway is by car, with an hour's drive from Belfast or three hours from Dublin. Parking is included if you're part of the Visitor Experience. Otherwise, it costs £10 per car at the Causeway Coast Way car park.
