Overview
Take a trip to The Palace of Versailles on your France Vacation
The Palace of Versailles was originally the hunting lodge of France's King Louis XIII but was converted into an opulent residence by his son Louis XIV and beautified further by successive kings. It is a stunning example in French 17th-century art, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Enter the magnificent chambers and salons of former French monarchs, the Hall of Mirrors with 17 arcaded windows, the light of which is reflected by 17 identical mirrors, the Salon of Peace and Salon of War, the princes' wing, and the sprawling grounds with manicured lawns, parterres, and fountains. Visit the galleries at the palace that houses sculptures and luxurious coaches. Stroll through the estate's park, a lush oasis featuring The Grand Canal, Lake of Swiss Guards, and Rivulet of Gally. You can expect to spend an hour or more exploring the estate. The high season is from April to October, when online booking is recommended to guarantee admission to the palace.
