Overview
Take a trip to Eiffel Tower on your France Vacation
The Eiffel Tower is the enduring icon of the Parisian skyline. Built in 1889 as the centrepiece of the World’s Fair, the tower was initially meant to be a temporary fixture, but soon became synonymous with the city. The tower stands 1,083 ft (330 m) tall and remains the tallest structure in Paris, astounding any visitor or local lucky enough to spot it during a stroll through the city (it’s not exactly hiding).
Ride the elevator to the second or third viewing platform for some exceptional views of the Seine River and the surrounding neighbourhoods. If you’re ambitious, you can even walk the stairs yourself. The lawn on the Champ de Mars is a perfect spot to relax on a blanket at sundown and enjoy the free light show that plays on the tower each night. As the sun fades, the spotlight transforms the tower into a lighthouse guiding your way through the Parisian night.
