Overview
Take a trip to Khao Sok National Park on your Thailand Vacation
Khao Sok National Park is the largest area of virgin forest in Southern Thailand and is one of the world’s oldest rainforests and is also one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves to be seen on a Thailand vacation. It is located in Surat Thani Province which is located north of Phuket. There is a mountain range which runs from north to south. Other attractions are adventure activities such as trekking, canoeing and bamboo rafting and, during rainy months you may see bears, boars, tapirs, gibbons, deer, marbled cats, wild elephants and possibly even a tiger. For bird watchers, there are more than 300 bird species and 38 bat types.
One special excursion is a boat trip to Cheow Lan Lake visiting waterfalls en route from the Khao Sok town visitor centre (70 kilometres/44 miles). This is a stunningly beautiful artificial lake surrounded by limestone cliffs and a green rainforest jungle inhabited by a large range of mammals such as tigers, elephants, tapirs and many monkey species. There are birds such as hornbills, banded pittas and great argus. Around the lake are different "floating bungalows" able to accommodate visitors. Also from the village, there are several trails which are available for trekking. For longer trails, a guide is mandatory according to the rules of the park.
