Overview
Take a trip to Hua Hin on your Thailand Vacation
Hua Hin is a seaside resort town in Thailand. Located approximately 200 km south of Bangkok, in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, the town of Hua Hin is situated in Hua Hin District, one of eight in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
Hua Hin has an area of 86 sq km and features a 5 km beach along the Gulf of Thailand’s west coast. To its north is the famous beach resort town of Cha Am, part of Phetchaburi province, which houses Thailand’s only American university.
In 1834, Hua Hin was named Samore Riang, meaning rows of rocks, by farmers who moved southward and settled there after leaving Phetchaburi Province due to agricultural drought. In the 1920s, King Rama VII discovered Hua Hin as an ideal getaway, building a summer palace which now acts as a full-time residence for His Majesty the King of Thailand. With a railroad being built nearby, Hua Hin soon turned from a tranquil fishing village to a luxury seaside resort, attracting the nobility and upper class of Siam.
Hua Hin not only offers a long sandy beach with clear waters, but also first-class golf courses, various gardens, waterfalls, a national park, surrounding hills, water sports, horseback riding, and shopping.
Hua Hin is the oldest and most traditional Thai resort. Featuring various festivals, (including the newly launched Hua Hin Film Festival), and being a short distance from Thailand’s bustling capital, the town of Hua Hin is very popular with Bangkok residents, ex-pats, and tourists on Thailand tours.
