Take a trip to Malacca on your Malaysia Vacation
A unique destination on Malaysia vacations is Malacca, the capital city of the state of Malacca, located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, approximately 128kms southeast of Kuala Lumpur.
Situated near the Strait of Malacca, the city also surrounds a part of the winding Malacca River, making it an important trading port once, before colonial rule.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, Malacca is considered Malaysia’s most historic city. Under the rule of various empires throughout the centuries, including a Sultan, Portuguese, Dutch, and British, Malacca features an interesting blend of Chinese and European influences.
St. Paul’s Hill, located in the historic central area of Malacca, is home to the ruins of St. Paul’s Church, built by the Portuguese over 400 years ago, while Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, also located in the old part of the city, is the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia, founded in 1646.
Considered Malaysia’s culturally historic centre, Malacca offers visitors tropical climates, ancient relics, antique shops, temples, Chinese streets, and a slower and more relaxed atmosphere in its charming town, to be experienced on a Malaysia tour.
