Overview
Take a trip to Mount Fuji on your Japan Vacation
Mount Fuji is a cultural icon of Japan, its symmetrical snow-covered cone depicted in art, photography, and literature everywhere. It is Japan's highest mountain, standing 12,389 ft (3,776 m) above sea level, on the Japanese island of Honshu. Due to its geographical location, it is an active volcano. Mount Fuji is one of Japan's Three Holy Mountains.
On clear days, Mount Fuji is visible from the Japanese capital, Tokyo. It is also possible to hike to the top of Mount Fuji. Set off from Tokyo to Hakone National Park. Drive halfway up the mountain to the Subaru Line 5th Station for breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. You can also explore the five lakes at the foot of Mount Fuji. Lake Yamanaka is the largest and closest to the mountain, offering stunning views.
