The Valley of Kings Tours

The Valley of Kings

The Valley of Kings is famous as the burial site of almost all the pharaohs of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties. The Ancient Egyptians chose the West Bank of the Nile River as the burial site with the belief that the setting of the sun in the west represented the death of the sun god Ra.

The burial ground has 65 tombs, 63 of which belong to members of the royal family. The tomb of Ramesses V and VI has hallways, a massive burial chamber, and a vaulted astronomical ceiling featuring Goddess Nut swallowing Ra. The Tomb of Seti I is one of the deepest and most colourful tombs in the Valley of Kings. King Tutankhamun's tomb is the smallest of the tombs but contains the largest collection of artifacts of any tomb in the valley, many of which are displayed in the Egyptian Museum. On a main (entry) ticket, you can choose three tombs from a list of open tombs. If visiting in summer, pack plenty of water and sunscreen as temperatures can cross 90°F.
