Take a Trip to Coromandel Peninsula on your New Zealand Vacation
The Coromandel Peninsula is located 55 kilometres/34 miles from Auckland where on a clear day, on a New Zealand vacation, it can be seen. It extends 85 kilometres/53 miles north of the Bay of Plenty and is 40 kilometres/25 miles wide. The peninsula is a major New Zealand tourist area renowned worldwide for its natural beauty and offers magnificent coastal scenery with pristine golden and white sand beaches and an interior consisting of temperate lush rainforests.
The Coromandel Peninsula is relatively undeveloped and sparsely populated. There is some geothermal activity with hot springs to be found in several places. It is also a walker’s paradise with many inland trails and coastal paths to be enjoyed on New Zealand Tours.
The town of Whangamata is a popular holiday retreat as is Whitianga, a sailing centre. One highlight is the interesting Cathedral Cove with its large limestone arch only reachable by foot or by boat.
