Take a trip to Harare on your Zimbabwe vacation.
Harare, the capital and largest city in Zimbabwe is located on the higher part of the Highveld Plateau in the Mashonaland East Province to the northeast of the country on a Zimbabwe tour. It serves as the administrative, commercial and communication centre of Zimbabwe.
The Pioneer Column, a military volunteer force organized by Cecil Rhodes founded the city as a fort on 12 September 1890. Originally known as Salisbury, the area became a municipality in 1897 and then a city in 1935. It retained the name Salisbury until 1982 when, for the second anniversary of Zimbabwean independence, it changed to Harare in honour of the Shona chieftain Neharawa.
