Take a trip to Ulaanbaatar on your Mongolia Vacation
Located on the bank of the Tuul River in north central Mongolia, Ulaan baatar is the country’s capital and largest city. An independent municipality, Ulaan baatar is the cultural, financial, and industrial heart of the country which will all be seen on a Mongolia vacation.
Once a yurt (tent-like habitations), mobile, monastery-town, Ulaan baatar was founded in 1639 and known as Orgoo, 250kms away from its existing location. Settling permanently in 1778 after 28 moves, Ulaan baatar has grown into a major manufacturing centre.
There are many museums and monasteries to visit on Mongolia tours. Statues of Genghis Khan can be found, as well as various commodities throughout Mongolia featuring the Emperor’s name and image. Sukhbaatar Square, found in the heart of Ulaan baatar is a public square surrounded by the Parliament House, Stock Exchange, the Drama Theatre, and Cultural Palace.
A vibrant nightlife, restaurants, and shops, including cashmere boutiques, can be found on Peace Avenue, Ulaan Baatar's main street which stretches east to west and passes along Sukhbaatar Square.
Excursions to the countryside, along with a backdrop of Mongolia’s four holy mountains surrounding the city, provide Ulaan baatar with an interesting sense of balance and a fascinating place to visit on a Mongolia vacation.
