Goway Travel has announced the appointment of Wendy Schaber to the position of Business Development Manager for Alberta and Saskatchewan, based in Alberta. Wendy’s 22-year industry experience includes managing a small independent agency, a top producer with American Express Vacation Travel specializing in luxury, customized and International destinations. She has also been a part-time flight attendant and significant experience as an Independent Travel Consultant.

Travellers booking with Goway’s AFRICAExperts on one of the unique 17-day Shongololo Southern Africa itineraries will save up to $410 if they book by 31st January 2010.

The Shongololo Express travels by night, maximizing sightseeing opportunities during the day. It is an unique South African cruise-train that carries its own fleet of mini vans which are used to take passengers on daily guided sightseeing drives.

The train operates two 17-day trips. The Good Hope starts in Johannesburg and ends in Cape Town, or vice versa, and is a comprehensive tour of South Africa that includes all of the great sights including Kruger National Park, Zululand, the Drakensberg Mountains, Klein Karoo, the winelands and the spectacular Garden Route.

Six countries are visited on The Southern Cross route that starts in Johannesburg and ends at Victoria Falls, or vice versa. World Masters Games Success

Veteran industry personality Bob Glazier recently won two medals at the World Masters Games in Sydney, Australia. The event, which is held every 4 years, is the world’s largest multi sporting event after the Olympic Games. Bob, who worked for many years at Sears Travel and Goway Travel won his medals in the 10k road race and the 5,000 metre track event.

The majority of the Games’ events took place at the 2000 Olympic sites. There were opening and closing ceremonies with the usual parade of athletes, plus newsworthy sportspeople, including:

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark who competed in the sailing competition.
The oldest competitor was a 101-year-old Lawn Bowler.
The most unusal competitor was a 100-year-old female shot-putter!

Nearly 200 competitors were former Olympic athletes ranging from the 1936 Berlin Olympics to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Goway Travel’s Special Events division was the official North American representative for the Games, and handled the travel arrangements for over 1,000 athletes. Yael was born in Israel, raised in Canada but moved back in early adulthood for a few years to reacquaint herself with her roots.
