Tasmania Soft Adventure Trips Rise in Popularity

Tasmania has crept up the list of destinations favoured by North American travellers, offering a rich history and scenic landscape, combined with spectacular soft adventure options. Tasmania, is in fact, developing into the South Pacific’s leading eco tourism destination.

“Together with Tourism Tasmania, we have been promoting the state as an environmentally friendly destination,” commented Bruce Hodge, President and founder of the 37 year old Goway, “and our marketing of self-drive and walking holidays are proving effective, because North Americans enjoy those holiday experiences.”

Recognizing the increased interest in Tasmania, Goway has increased their product offerings to Tasmania, expanding to include several key guided walks, escapes and lodges. Tasmania’s wilderness is the perfect setting for extended guided walks through the National Parks. Goway offers the 4-day “Bay of Fires” walk from $1739 which culminates at the Bay of Fires luxury lodge, and is the only building in this near-unknown paradise.

Also new for Goway’s 2007 program is the Freycinet Escape, a 3-day experience from $1338 which features Tasmania’s first luxury wilderness camp, situated within the world renowned Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s East Coast. This unique luxurious wilderness accommodation offers luxury guest tents, a dining tent, resident chef and a host of activities, including boat cruises and a guided walk to the famous Wineglass Bay.

Tasmania is also showcasing innovative new tours such as the “Piners and Miners Tour“. A first of its kind, the experience operates from Strahan on Tasmania’s West Coast and takes up to eight guests by Hi-Rail vehicle (a four-wheel drive converted into a rail vehicle) on the West Coast Wilderness Railway track through the ancient rainforest. At Lynchford, the Hi-Rail retracts its rail wheels and the vehicle transforms into a four-wheel drive for the next part of the journey. A short walk through the World Heritage area brings travellers to a sumptuous lunch featuring fresh Tasmanian seafood and the finest wines. Guests complete the day with a cruise through Macquarie Harbour to return to Strahan.

Full details of Goway’s Tasmania offers can be found in their up-side-down DOWNUNDER catalogue and on their extensive website. For more information call 1-800-387-8850 or email info@goway.com.
