Did you know that four Canadian cities have hosted the Commonwealth Games, the second largest multi-sport event in the world and in 1930 Hamilton, Ontario was the first in the world to host the Games. For the 2014 Games, five cities are bidding to be the Canadian candidate. In the meantime however, the XVIII Commonwealth Games will be held in Melbourne, Australia 15-26 March, 2006.
To help promote the Melbourne Games and entice Canadians to travel to Downunder, Goway Travel, the official Games ticket provider for Canada will be hosting special presentations in Vancouver (Oct. 29), (Nov. 1), Winnipeg (Nov. 2), Edmonton (Nov. 3), Calgary (Nov. 5), Halifax (Nov. 7), Montreal (Nov. 08), Ottawa (Nov. 9), Toronto (Nov. 10) and Ancaster (Nov. 26). The company hopes to have a Canadian athlete in attendance.
Agents are invited to attend and bring prospective clients. In most cities “agents only” presentations will precede the public event.
Goway Travel is Canada’s oldest and largest company specializing in travel to the lands Downunder. They are also the only Canadian travel company to actually have an office in Australia.
Melbourne is Australia’s city of sport. The whole country stops for the Melbourne Cup horse race; their cricket ground is “holy” and everyone supports an “Aussie Rules” football team. The city is home to the Australian Open Tennis Championship and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. They also hosted the 1956 Olympic Games. Melbourne therefore is a very fitting place to host the next Commonweath Games.
