Travel Alert Update – Thailand

The flooding in Thailand has now subsided…

Once again we would like to take this opportunity to advise you on the current conditions here in sunny Bangkok and the surrounding areas. In relation to the recent flood crisis as far as tourists are aware the Thai flood crisis is just about over.

Many tourists who visited the capital Bangkok, over the last month reported that they had not seen any flooding at all. This is because not many of the tourist areas were affected. And the ones that were, the waters have already receded. Just a few tourist attractions on the outskirts of Bangkok are still closed, Safari World and Dream World. They are expected to re-open early December.

The city of Ayutthaya is now mostly dry and is now open to tourists already who are visiting the main historical attractions. However, the floating market is expected to be flooded for another month or two.

In Samut Songkhram province you can visit Amphawa Floating Market and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, as both are accessible from Bangkok via Rama II Road, the floods are no longing affecting the roads in this part of the country.

Public transport is now getting back to normal. The Chao Phraya Express boats are now running but with limited services to all stations along the river. They tourist boat running from Sathorn Pier up and down the river is back to its daily scheduled services. The Southern Bus Terminal has now re-opened and buses are running and normal services have resumed. The Northern Bus Terminal at Mo Chit 2 is still open though there are some delays departing from Bangkok.

All trains running to the south of Thailand are now back to normal service. The Northern train line out of Bangkok is getting back to normal though there are reports that some trains are still being cancelled or diverted. The sleeper train service to Chiang Mai is once again in-service. The MRT (subway) have removed all of their flood prevention barriers.

Chatuchak Weekend Market was open over the weekend and was busy with tourists. Shopping malls in the flooded areas, such as Lad Phrao and Pinklao, have re-opened.

We are still getting a lot of questions from people asking about Phuket, we can assure you that there are NO floods on Phuket and there are no food/water shortages. The Island is operating as normal for this time of year.
